Poor Power Factor Problem

The power factor was low around 0.7 due to 50% loaded transformers feeding induction motors.

The State Electricity Board (SEB) threatened to discontinue the power supply of the PF if it is not raised to the statutory minimum 0.8

Two capacitor banks installed on the 11-KV bus improved the power factor to > 0.9 and met the statutory requirements. About 10% less power bill is a bonus benefit.
