Temperature is one of the most important physical parameters in every day of life. It has the cause and effect even in human beings and other creatures apart from machines and manufacturing processes. Close monitoring of the temperature and taking timely preventive measures can save life, machines and materials. However it is practically impossible for a human being to continuously keep sensing and taking timely measures to prevent damage. Hence an electronic device designed to monitor the temperature continuously and give an audio/visual alarm in case of temperature crossing the limits is essential.

Many a times it will be essential to monitor the temperature at different zones in a machine or in a manufacturing process and give out a common alarm whenever these zones cross their corresponding limits. It will be expensive and unwieldy to have one electronic device deployed for every zone .Instead it is desirable to have one electronic device designed to sense temperatures at different zones., compare the preset limits and give out a common alarm. It is this device which is referred to as Temperature Scanner.

Process Industries has several such Temperature Scanners to suit various customized applications to be cost effective and to be reliable. Some of our temperature scanner products are:

Temperature Scanner

A Temperature Scanner is a device that measures more than one temperature points or multi-channel. It is actually a multi-channel indicator that measures and displays signals of each channel one-by-one up to last channel and then returns to first channel and continues the process cyclically. This continuous cyclic process of measurement is called scanning. Temperature is most widely measured parameter in industry. By using a temperature scanner, temperature of multiple points can be measured in a single unit thus saving cost and space. Thus Temperature scanners are also called as multi-point indicators / scanners. Temperature Scanners are essentially based on digital technology or microprocessor/ microcontroller based. It is capable of measuring temperature from resistance temperature sensors like RTD Pt100 or from different types of thermocouples like J, K, R, S, T, B, E and N.

Now-a-days Temperature scanners are also capable of measuring other signals like 4-20mA, 0 to 1VDC, 0 to 5VDC etc from different transmitters. So we can call this device as Process Scanner as it not only measures temperature but also many other process parameters like flow, pressure, humidity, level etc.

Temperature Scanners have facility of alarm/ control relay outputs, serial communication port to connect to SCADA / DCS / PLC. Applications of Temperature Scanners are seen in almost all types of Industries.

The Temperature Scanner is a microprocessor-based system that accepts the thermocouple/RTD input type for each input. Each channel can be manually or automatically scanned and active zones are displayed. Instrument is programmable for J, K, T or E thermocouple input types, degrees °C or °F, and scan rate between 2 to 60 seconds. Each channel has individual, independent and programmable alarm setpoints with alarm indicator. Memory and setpoints are retained when power is off.

Applications

  • Substation Monitoring
  • Motor/Generator Monitoring and Protection
  • Transformer monitoring and protection
  • Compressor/Pump/DG set monitoring
  • Asset Monitoring
  • As an Serial/Ethernet/Profibus RTU
  • Remote I/O module
  • Multi Point On/Off control
  • Pipeline Heat Tracing circuit control
  • Remote I/O for PLC/DCS/SCADA
