Course overview

In this class, you will learn how to design modern Human Machine Interface (HMI) projects within FactoryTalk View Studio Machine Edition.

The course will start with basic concepts that cover each tool available in the development studio followed by every step you need to take in order to build and deploy your application. The course will then dive into advanced concepts that will take your projects to the next level, differentiate you from all other developers and make sure that your designs comply with industry best-practices.

The projects included in the class are aimed at testing your knowledge, augment the learning process and give you an opportunity to solve a challenge on your own.

What Will This Course Cover?

Our focus will be on FactoryTalk View Studio Machine Edition (ME). We will be utilizing version 11 of the software. However, the same interface should be observed in earlier and later versions.

Note 1: In versions 6 or earlier, you may not have access to all the tools covered in the class.

Note 2: FactoryTalk View Studio Site Edition (SE) design practices will be the same. However, screen transitions, as well as software deployment is different.

When it comes to hardware, we will be using a Panel View 1000 terminal to test our applications. The hardware does not play an important role and we encourage you to design and test your applications within FactoryTalk View Studio and/or other Panel View terminals.

Note 1: Rockwell’s recent HMI terminals are designed in Studio 5000 through an interface that is completely different to FactoryTalk View Studio. Make sure to purchase HMI terminals that will accept FactoryTalk View Studio applications if you plan on practicing on your own.

What can I expect from this class?

  • Understand every tool available in FactoryTalk View Studio for building HMIs.
  • Build multi-display applications in FactoryTalk View Studio Machine Edition.
  • Develop HMI applications that are responsive and follow industry best-practices on UX/UI.
  • Complete several projects that teach you how to create HMI systems for real-world scenarios.
  • Learn and Apply advanced topics that differentiate your designs from most developers within the industry.

What is the target audience for the class?

  • Electrical Engineers tasked with PLC programming and HMI development.
  • Electricians, Technicians and Maintenance Personnel working closely with manufacturing control systems.
  • Software Engineers looking to build UIs for industrial systems.
  • Manufacturing Operators, Supervisors or other personnel looking to progress their manufacturing career.
  • Anyone interested in building an interface for an automation project.
